KY Part 6: Natural Bridge State Park - WOW!

Our first full day in Eastern Kentucky involved stopping at Mill Creek Lake and then hiking at Natural Bridge State Park.
Mill Creek Lake was a beautiful mirror!

Next up:  Natural Bridge State Park.  Kentucky's state parks are free, and it was an awesome day in the 70s.  We decided to take the long hike option up to top of the cliff where the natural stone bridge was.  It took us an hour and a half to get up there!
The trees were cool (literally and figuratively)!

Sure, we've been hiking a long ways, but look how far we've come, kids!!
Most of the hike was forested/shaded, but this spot was open and sunny.  and hot.!

No, we are not at the top of the mountain just yet.  But you can smile anyway!

One of the kids had a sharp-enough eye to see this lizard!
This was our first sighting of the natural bridge.  We were still probably half a mile away from it at this point.

Almost there, kids....
There it is - the bottom of the natural bridge!
People were taking pictures under the natural Kentucky limestone bridge.  Some people hiked all the way up (like us), some took the shorter route, and other rode a sky lift to this point.

Paige was dogging it by now, but it's her own fault...I told her to wear comfortable HIKING shoes!  At any rate, look around.  This is a spectacular view at the top of the bridge!

Wynne, age 8

Ally, age 15 3/4

Cy, almost 14

Paige, 11

Mark was not a big fan of the altitude we were at.  We had to remind him to walk in the middle of the "bridge" and not look down!  There were no railings, but the bridge was wide enough to be safe.  I certainly wouldn't take a toddler up there, though!!

Looking over to Lovers Leap, another rock protrusion from another part of the mountain....and...
A look back at the natural bridge from our next vantage  point...Lovers Leap! The people look so tiny.  Yes, we were just over there! Wow.
Before the mountains were born Or You gave birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. --Psalm 90:2
