Never Too Old to Be Bold

A few weeks ago Mark said, "Come take a look at Mickey.  We should get a picture of this."
The pictures don't do it justice.  This dog was halfway down the hold, with only his backside sticking up out of the ground.  He is a Jack Russell Terrier, born and bred to hunt rabbits, foxes, anything that stays close to the ground.  Even though he's 13 in human years and "getting up there", he still has enough energy to enjoy a good hunt.
My camera was acing a little wonky that day (or maybe it was just the photographer), but I love this picture anyway.  It captures the joy of running, of chasing, of being alive and going after something.  Sure, Mickey rarely tracks down varmints anymore, but every once in a while we'll see a carcass lying around courtesy of the chase.
I just finished up youth group tonight with a lovely group of young ladies.  This month's topic was about taking risks, going through the narrow gate for Christ.  In the risk-taking, in the non-conformity, in the standing up for Jesus, that is where we are most alive.  Mickey's youth came rushing back to me when I watched him in the chase, and I could sense that this is where he discovers that HE is most alive.

We're never too old to step out in boldness for Jesus!  The narrower the gate we pass through, the better.  Even an old dog knows that. :)

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.--Matthew 7:13-14
