Banking on a Good Time
Last Friday we celebrated my mom's birthday (a few days late) with a little shopping and lunch break in Shullsburg. A beautiful historic downtown, Mom had been wanting to check out the shops, so my sisters took her there. Wynne and I met up with them after preschool.
Years ago we had eaten at the Brewster House, so this time we decided to try a new spot...the Water Street Place (inn and pub/eatery). Our table was right next to an old 1900s bank vault. Turns out the vault had been blown open with nitroglycerin during a bank heist in 1925!
I ordered the pub burger which came with a combination of regular and sweet potato fries. I just had to take a picture of how big this burger was. The bun was homemade and also HUGE. Half of this went in a take-home container for Mark. It was delicious!
Wynne was happy to play with her cousin Garrison. The babies of our families got a little "afternoon out" with their moms, aunts, and grandma. Garrison was quick to show Wynne one of the stores we had missed, where a water fountain was bubbling in the backyard. And this gazebo was a big hotspot for the kids, too!
We did a little window shopping at the Shullsburg Cheese store, where Marla picked up some Door County chocolate covered cherry wine. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? The primitives store Tailings was full of Halloween decor, and the kids really took pause when they met up with this tired old miner.
Somewhere along the line, I raised a little hambone. She wanted to have her picture taken with every standing decoration there was!
It was a lovely little afternoon jaunt. Thanks to my mom and sisters for a fun excursion, not even an hour's drive away!
And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.--2 Corinthians 6:18 ESV
