Going for a Duck Ride

Last week's trip to the Dells area was not only fun and relaxing; it also carried a bit of history with it. Mark and I knew agreed that it was important for the kids to see the REAL Wisconsin Dells, to appreciate the history and geography of the land (and why it became such a tourist trap in the first place). So we made sure to take a duck tour!

The real dells are beautiful, as you can see. I'd take this view over a overpriced, overgrown waterpark any day of the week!

We all paired up for the one-hour tour...

...except for Cy, who was given a front-row seat as co-pilot!

Our tour guide/driver was very friendly and knowledgeable on the area. The loud motor of the boat, however, drowned out some of what he was saying, so I'm not sure if he called this rock formation Hawk's Peak or Hawk's Beak. Either way, it was impressive!

A close-up view of the beak and tongue of that hawk.

After a ride on the Wisconsin river, we made our way over to the new dam built two years ago at Lake Delton. You may recall the 2008 heavy flooding of our area, which broke this dam and literally emptied out Lake Delton.

Two years and millions of dollars later, the lake is now fully restored and cleaner than ever!

I took a boat tour 14 years ago, but this was my first duck ride. The coolest thing about the ducks is that they of course ride on both land and water!

After some more swimming time back at the park, we enjoyed a grill-out for supper. Having a gas grill at home, we forgot how long it takes for charcoal to get hot. But it was worth it!

We had so much fun last week. We really, really needed the break. The time to get away from it all (even the kids)!

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.--Exodus 33:14

That Duck ride looked like lots of fun! I had no idea the area looked like that (around WI Dells). We'll have to go check it out some time. (the over-the-top water parks have scared us from checking out the Dells)
