Diamonds are Forever

In case my "reading faithful" have been wondering why the posts have become less frequent over the past few weeks...well, the story begins about 63 years ago.
Two young people met at a dance hall in Rewey, Wisconsin. He was dancing with another gal, but then he saw that gal's little sister. Brown hair, brown eyes, a little bit of vim and vigor...
"I knew when I saw her that I was going to marry her," he would say many times after that.

August 10, 1950. It was a Thursday morning, not sure why they picked a Thursday, but the young man said something about having 10 kids since they were married on the tenth!

A few weeks later, they had a wedding dance at the Belmont Opera House, with music by the Jack Busch Orchestra.

Sixty years, 10 children, 32 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren later...

...and the band's still playing! (Jack's nephews, anyway.)

Knee replacements, hospitalizations, a child's death, alcohol dependency, sobriety, farming ups and downs, relationship struggles...that's life. "God doesn't promise us a bed of roses," the man discovers.

"Just keep going. Don't give up!" is her motto.

There will be ups. There will be downs.

It's all a lot easier to handle if we're sharing it with someone.

So join hands and hold on tight!

Through the slow seasons...

...and the quick ones...

...the twists and turns...

...life is richest when shared with family

and dear old friends.

An important thing my parents have taught me is that we need to remember not to take ourselves too seriously...

...and that Someone else is in control.

So when He gives us 60 years to live, that's a gift. And when He gives us 60 years to be married to a loved one, well...that's just a blessing that we can't help but share with others!

So take out those old memories...dust off those old photographs...

...take the time to reflect on all that He has done for you and look forward with hope to His plans for your future!

Happy Diamond Anniversary, Mom and Dad. I love you!!

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.--Jeremiah 29:11

Ahhhh....what a sweet post! Brought a tear to my eye!

Is that your mom's wedding dress hung up at the anniversary party? I adore the old photos.

Yes, Life certainly is full of Ups and Downs. I'm also glad I don't have to navigate through them alone.

(by the way, you look FANTASTIC!!!)

Thanks Astrid. It was something we worked so hard on for so long, but it was all worth it to see Mom and Dad smile that day. I know we are very, very lucky to have so much of our family intact and so close for so long!
(and yes, that's Mom's wedding dress-first time I'd ever seen it!)
