A Brief Step Back in Time

Lots of reminiscing these past few weeks...

On our drive back from the Dells area vacation, we stopped just outside of Reedsburg to snap a few photos.

Twenty-some years ago, Mark and his sister had their photo taken at this little log cabin. Ally and Cy had their photo taken here in 2002, and since we were in the area we just had to repeat the tradition with the full gang.

Ah, that's better! No more squinting!!

It was a Wednesday evening and the place was closed, but we still snooped around a bit.

Apparently the log homes/shops in this village were built in the 1850s. The local historical society is doing a great job of keeping them up!

I love history and things of yesteryear, but I would definitely have a hard time living without modern appliances, heating and cooling!

More peeking into windows.

Of course there was a church...

...more homes and a shops...

...and the local school, which surprisingly, closed not that long ago--1963!

The bugs and the heat kept our trip short, but it was still worthwhile. It's great how some people spend their energy and resources to bring us flashes from the past!

The memory of the righteous is blessed -- Proverbs 10:7a

I can certainly appreciate the way people used to live (the pioneers) but I'll admit that I'm pretty darn fond of A/C! How did they deal with the blasted heat back then? Didn't the women wear heavy clothes even in the summer?
