Slacker Mom Confession #3,462

So Daddy was gone all weekend (home only to sleep) and Mommy figures, "Hey, let's have a family fun project on Friday night!" What better way to celebrate than with a 25-cent Gingerbread House Kit from Walgreens? (Gotta love their Christmas Clearance!!)

The kids were so happy, so engaged, so organized with their separate bowls for separate candies. Mom scored extra points for buying an extra tub of frosting (just in case the icing provided with the kit ran out--and you KNOW it always does!!). The children were working diligently on the house, Mom took lots of pictures, and all was right with the world.

Until Sunday morning when said Mom turns on the oven to preheat for cinnamon rolls, takes a shower, and returns to a warm gingerbread-slash-plastic smell in the kitchen.

Guess who forgot that we were hiding the Gingerbread Palace in the oven so that we could make a big presentation to Dad upon his return Sunday night??

Oh well; it still tasted good. (the parts far enough away from carcinogenic plastic)
And besides, Daddy didn't get home till late after bedtime, anyway.

Back to the Clearance Section!!

Just think what a great story this will be for your kids to tell their kids when they are older! This is a priceless story. You are not a slacker mom - you are human!! Thanks for making your readers feel human, too. :)

Thanks for making me feel a little better. The thing is, the kids questioned why I hid the thing in our oven and I assured them, "Don't worry; Dad won't turn on the oven for anything!" (He cooks, but usually only with the microwave or a skillet.) And then there I go, forgetting the thing was in there. sigh.
