Little People Can Do BIG Things!

The elementary school student council and their advisors organized a fundraiser for the tsunami/earthquake victims in Japan.  All of the elementary students took pledges to jump rope all day long on April 21st, with the proceeds going to Japan.  Groups of children would come into the gym to jump rope (or jump on trampolines etc.) for twenty minutes.  I was one of the parent volunteers that day, and let me tell you: jumping for 20 minutes is a LONG time!!  Amazingly, the kids raised over $2500 for Japan.  Way to go, kids!!
At the end of the day, an assembly was held to announce the final $ amount raised...and look who came to see the kids!

This is a small town and a small school.  We're talking around 135 kids in preschool through fifth grade raising a little over $2500.   I think that is an outstanding effort!  (They even made the Channel 15 news that night ;)

A little truly does go a long way.  Every child can make a difference, even if just by caring about someone else for 20 minutes out of their day.  Our Sunday School also raised money for Japan, collecting change at our worship services for 3 Sundays.  Three weeks, about 5 minutes a week--we raised $339.  Not bad for 15 minutes of caring!

Now I'd like to see what we can do for the folks in the South who have had their lives turned upside down by the tornadoes last week.  Unbelievable devastation.  Time for us to shine some light on them!  What can God do with us?

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ ”--Matthew 25:34

I am really impressed with our kids for having raised that money! I'm sure it's a drop-in-the-bucket for other schools but that was a lot of money for our school! Way to go! Little people really can make a difference!
