24 Hours From Now

I'll be running in this again!

I'm super nervous.  Very few people know about it because I just don't like talking about it.  I was going to ask my friends and family to pledge me so much $ per mile and give the proceeds to Mark's fundraising efforts for the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.....but I didn't want to be tooting my own horn.  I would love to run for a cause, but I have such a hard time getting past the "look what I'm doing" part of it.  I don't want any of the attention on me.  That sounds pretty funny coming from a would-be drama major!  (I guess I went from a major to a minor for more reasons than being a small-town girl.)

Why am I doing this again?  A big reason is the race director, Linda.  She is so personable and caring.  She actually e-mailed me from time to time throughout the past year to ask how I was doing.  She remembered my family and my injury battles last year.  She called me literally minutes after I hit "register" on the website this year.  Linda makes the Prairie du Chien Half-Marathon a small-town family affair, right in my comfort zone.

Another big reason is that I didn't want to be like Billy Ray Cyrus.  No, my daughter is not growing up in the public eye and selling her soul to the culture, but do you remember "Achy Breaky Heart"?  Yeah, I didn't think so.  I don't want to be like that, a flash in the pan, a one-and-done.  I wanted to be able to tell myself that it wasn't a fluke, that I really did do this thing more than once.

I have been blessed in this year's training by very few injuries (knock on wood!) and only had to ice my knees a few times (so far).  I have trained with my silver wonders the whole time, and I think that has made the most difference!
I wish they still looked like this.  This was last year.  Now my huge right big toe is poking a hole through the mesh and turning these into a carbon copy of every other athletic shoe I own.  Dang big toes!!

If anyone reads this and is the prayin' sort, I would sure appreciate you sending up a petition for me and everybody else in the race tomorrow.  Prayers for NO RAIN mainly! and for finishing the race in relatively fine fashion.  Thanks!!!!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us--Hebrews 12:1

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. --Philippians 3:14 (our VBS theme this year!)

I can't believe you haven't mentioned that you were going to do a half-marathon! I'm so impressed! I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do another one (unless there was a good reason!). I would have totally sponsored you. Maybe next year? ;-)

I wish I would have done the Prairie du Chien's half marathon last year. I'm sure if I'd done that one I would have had a nicer, friendly running- I mean slow jogging- experience.

Go Amy, GO!!!!

Thank you for the encouragement! My main concern, the weather, turned out to be a non-factor (except that the streets were still wet from overnight rain). It was overcast enough to make it very comfortable running weather...perfect weather in fact!
