Thankful Thursday

#1 -- My dad came home from the hospital this week!! Praise God. We visited with Dad on Sunday afternoon, and he was really tired and weak...yet after some prayers, rest and goulash (!) he must have woke up with renewed strength, good enough to come home on Monday night. He isn't all the way "back" yet, but we are thankful to have him home!

I am thankful for the double blessing of two healthy, crazy girls who started out small and sick but are lively and louder than ever!

I am thankful for the special bond that they share.

I am thankful for the ministry at the Benton Bible Church, specifically this Sacred Grounds Coffee Shop where they serve free meals on Fridays.

I am thankful for a church who looks beyond fancy windows and pews, reaching out beyond its walls to serve its community. I am thankful for good Christian friends like Diane & her family, some of whom joined Wynne and me for a lunch/shopping date last Friday. We also shopped at this church's thrift shop where - bonus! - it was half-price day on Friday!

I am thankful for how the Holy Spirit speaks to people and, through something as simple as giving people space to gather and let their children play, works to build relationships.

I am thankful for Phil Vischer, Veggie Tales, and What's in the Bible curriculum that makes God's Word come to life for kids without watering it down!

Another thing I'm thankful for today is this. My amazing husband just told me today that he is taking me on a DATE NIGHT to worship with Lincoln Brewster, Matthew West, and Josh Wilson!! I am beYOND excited!!
Matthew West is such a gifted songwriter. He asked people to share their stories, retreated to a cabin for a few months last year, and wrote several songs which drive "The Story of My Life" tour.

Lincoln Brewster is a terrific worship leader and very talented guitarist, having played & collaborated with the lead singer from Journey!

Josh Wilson is no slouch either, writing some pretty meaningful songs himself. We used this one in Ally's middle school youth group last fall.

I get to spend some alone time with Mark, and then we get to hear these incredible artists who work for the Lord. Jeepers, I thought the new treadmill was my birthday present!! I am just so thankful to be married to a godly man who is not afraid to lead his family for Christ. He is sacrificing time and money to take me to this concert, and I cherish him for doing this kind of stuff for me. God has once again taken my prayers from years ago and worked it out in His own timing, going bigger than I could have ever imagined or done on my own.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.--1 Thessalonians 5:18

I will try again to let you know that I have read your blog about Dad and the girls. I want Paige to know that she has been on my mind a lot and hope to show her how much when we see you at Easter. Also, reading about the Benton church reminds me of the "Come to Supper" I helped serve in LaCrosse at Our Saviours Lutheran Church last week. This church serves weekly suppers to the needy and homeless in the community. Because of this mission, a woman from my church named Phyllis started a monthly "Come to Supper" at our church. Seeing all who come is so rewarding! We serve from 175-200 meals! Phyllis is truly a great mentor. Well, I'll be in touch. Love, Deb

Hey Deb, I remember meeting Phyllis and getting an extra loaf of bread when I was up there doing that memory book presentation for you! I would LOVE to get Come to Supper started at our church...Fennimore UMC has it going and am waiting to hear back from them. Would you be able to put me in touch with Phyllis? Thanks, Love, Amy
