What in the Wide, Wide World of Sports

I'm sorry, I can't help myself. When I was trying to think of a clever title for this post, I just couldn't hold back my Slim Pickens impersonation. Do you remember his hilarious performance in "Blazing Saddles"? Classic, my friends. Not PC, but classic. The best of Mel Brooks right there.

Anyway, back to the post. We ended Ally's basketball season last weekend with a game in Galena. I just love their gym. Even though it's a Christian school, may I please covet thy neighbor's gym? I mean, I can't help but compare it to our elementary school's sad little gym with cement floors, dreary dark colors, and no room to sit or stand beyond the basketball court. This place has a super stage, great lighting and sound, awesome Sport Court flooring and very striking painted images/words all over the place. Very motivating!!

Halftime means run-around time for little brothers and sisters. Those poor little kids have to sit and watch a full 16 minutes of basketball, feeding their face with popcorn and trying to entertain themselves with card games, coloring, or just plain old socializing. We're good for about 2 quarters, and then thank the Lord it's halftime.

(Now if I could just figure out how to keep them happy for the last 2 quarters!!)

Our boy never seems to have difficulty making new friends. The other kid is either celebrating homecoming or promoting Avatar, one of the two.

We won this game and finished the season 4 and 13, I think. It was a blur. Kinda like these pictures.

The best part was just watching the girls progress. Ally, for example, became a fairly confident dribbler and much more aggressive on defense. See her dribbling with her left hand? Not bad for a rightie!

Three nights later, same song, different verse. Back home with the boys now. The second through fourth graders learn basic basketball skills on 4 Saturdays in January and culminate it with a little game at a varsity halftime. Cy was part of the "Heat"!

Cy was supposed to be in this picture, but I can't find him now. Guess I'm not cut out for sports photography. It might have a little something to do with 3 little girls poking and pulling me at the time.

So now, my friends, basketball season is personally over for our family. There's still 6 weeks left of it for my husband to work at, but not as a coach--just as game manager. I'm so grateful his basketball coaching days are over...that is one long cold season. (from a mom-cooped-up-in-the-gym standpoint) Give me football season any day!!

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.--1 Corinthians 10:31

I agree, that IS a nice gym. (how do we get one of those for our school?) I've watched Blazing Saddles but I can't recall who you were referring to. Hmm...Perhaps I'd better go watch it again.

Now do you get a break from all the shuttling back and forth to games? :)

Yes, we need a gym (or at least a safe floor) like that! Fundraising?? yuck.

Slim Pickens was the cowboy guy who answered to Harvey Korman's character & bossed around the head of the railroad gang. First scene I think. Too dang funny!

Yes I get a break time to get back to planning kids club and Sunday School lessons!
